A sunset over a mountainous region

Never Alone

We were asked to
To keep our distance,
To stand away
No hugs goodbye

We were created to invite others in
To set an extra seat at the table
And share our homes with the weary

In this time alone,
May we not grow lonely
And learn once again to love
Ourselves

To sing and dance with ourselves
To treat ourselves well
So someday, when we don’t have
Social distance
We won’t be emotionally distant too

Hear again the beauty of silence,
Speak away the shadows of the past
Sit and be present
For we are never alone
Throw open wide your windows,

listen, look

Your neighbor is right there too
Listening to the same silence.
