In honor of International Women’s Day today, we wanted to share about an amazing organization that is making a difference in the lives of impoverished and marginalized women in Africa, India, Cambodia and the United States…

Did you know that more than 1 billion people in the world today live in unacceptable conditions of poverty? Women make up half of the world’s population, but 70% of the world’s poor. That’s why we’re thrilled to know that GLEE star Jayma Mays has officially joined Raven + Lily in their quest to change this statistic. Below is a video she recorded announcing the partnership in honor of International Women’s Day today, as well as the launch of the spring collection:

Raven + Lily is an apparel and accessories company that is dedicated to empowering impoverished women through design partnerships. They currently help employ marginalized women in Africa, India, Cambodia, and the United States at fair trade wages to give them access to a safe job, sustainable income, healthcare, education, and a real chance to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families. Each collection features handmade, eco-friendly designs that reflect the beauty and culture of the women who made them. Raven + Lily believes every women is valuable and full of potential. By offering sustainable income opportunities in a caring work environment, women once facing oppressive conditions, such as poverty, slavery, and disease, are now experiencing hope and dignity.

  3. International princess project is an organization that supports women in India by providing jobs making pajama pants in a few towns in India. IPP provides the women an opportunity to walk out of the oppression of sex trafficking and into the glorious light of dignity and hope!!!
