Our eyes and prayers have been on Houston and on the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. There are no words when such an event occurs, but it’s been encouraging to see such an outpouring of community, service and hope that speaks (and acts) louder than the heartbreak.

If you’re looking for ways to give or donate, we’re linking a few resources below that we’ve found helpful. If you know of an organization on the ground or a more specific way to assist in the search, rescue and rebuild effort, please share in the comments!

We’ll be updating here as we discover more:

GOFUNDME – links to several specific fundraising campaigns

Preemptive Love – on the ground in Houston and the surrounding area

The Salvation Army – providing disaster relief (especially long-term)

RED CROSS – text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation

Houston SPCA – providing emergency animal rescue & shelter

Texas Diaper Bank – taking cash and diaper donations to assist displaced families

Save the Children – providing on the ground emergency relief, shelter and cribs

Austin Pets Alive – to donate financially, needed items (list of current needs on site), volunteer or foster displaced animals

Texas Organizing Project – to aid the rebuilding effort in marginalized communities

Trusted World – for Dallas-based support, volunteers and drop-off donation locations

Project Night Night – sending care packages for children displaced from their homes due to Harvey

Southside Skatepark – collecting food/water, hygiene products and baby needs via Amazon wishlist

Also, this NY Times article lists additional resources and helpful information on how to avoid scams and check out these five ways to easily serve via StyleCaster. If you want to volunteer on the ground in Texas, then we suggest reading this Quartz article first.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this! Though I no longer live there, Houston is my hometown. I was born there, met my husband there, had our son there, and many of my family members and close friends still live there. It is devastating to see pictures of parts of Houston that we used to live at or go to be completely underwater. We were there for the hurricanes in 2005, and 2008. Power was out for weeks all over the city, and with the flooding, this hurricane is much worse. All donations, prayers, volunteers are so appreciated! Thank you Darling for sharing these links <3
