The back of a Darling journal that says, "You are a work of art."

Whether it’s autumn’s colors, apple picking or fresh crisp air replacing a sun-kissed glowmany of us look forward to the beauty of change at each season’s arrival. This year, it’s likely that most of us are experiencing the changing seasons differently.

You might be grieving the loss of seasonal gatherings and activities that are canceled. You might be facing a canceled wedding or loss of a job. You might be dealing with the sadness of being apart from loved ones. You are not alone. We may not have control over many things, but we can choose our perspective.

We may not have control over many things, but we can choose our perspective.

Throughout most of the summer, my mind was cluttered with negative thoughts. I barely got to enjoy it for it was. I realized it during one of my morning walks this week. I felt fall coming. I felt it on my skin, and I saw it on the sun taking its sweet time to rise, in the pretty mums my husband brought home.

I thought, “I am going to choose to see this season differently.” Just like any New Year’s Day, I find it powerful to journal about the new season ahead so that I can choose to live in it with intention. I hope you can join me in welcoming fall, for all that it has to offereven if it looks different than what we expected.

[It is] powerful to journal about the new season ahead so that I can choose to live in it with intention.

Journal Prompts

Be sure to make the prompts as personal and specific as possible to you and your experiences.

Goodbye Summer

Take time to remember the good things that happened during summer before looking ahead. Take notice. Name them. Thank them. Then, let it all go.

  1. What was one unexpected good thing that happened this summer?
  2. Name one lesson learned this summer that you want to remember? Why is this meaningful to you?

Hello Fall

  1. What do you hope to feel this fall?
  2. How can you cultivate your home/surroundings for this feeling? (Example: Declutter your workspace to feel more at peace or decorate with cozy blankets and throw pillows to create a place of warmth.)
  3. What is one thing you are grieving this fall? (Some examples might be the inability to fly to see family or host Halloween with kids.) Write it all down and be honest with your feelings.
  4. How can you reframe these losses to see them differently
  5. Meditate on what this season has in store for you. How are you called to use this season?

What is your mood as we enter into a new season? In what areas of your life could you use a fresh perspective? For your very own Darling journal, be sure to visit the Shop.
