A woman high kicking off the ground as she jumps up the stairs

We are bringing “Darling Letters” from your inbox to the blog! We love the art of letter writing and believe it helps build authentic community. Our editors and contributors have thoughtfully written encouraging letters to cut through the busyness and speak straight to your heart.

As I shared my reflections about discontentment and change in my life, my mentor looked me in the eyes and said, “You can reset whenever you wantalways remember that.”

It’s such a simple statement. We reset and adjust to our environments countless times a day: switching on the A/C in the car when it’s hot, grabbing a snack when we’re hungry or going on a walk when we feel restless.

“You can reset whenever you wantalways remember that.”

Yet, the words felt different when I considered them in the context of my future career, relationships and living situation. It’s easy to forget that I have ownership of these areas of my life. More importantly, it’s easy to forget that I have ownership of my perspective on them.

Seasons of change become more meaningful when your outlook is one of autonomy. It’s OK to know what you want; it’s also OK to reset when “Plan A” doesn’t work out the way you’d originally hoped for.

We are creative, adaptable beings. It requires continued bravery and humility to not only acknowledge the way things change but to welcome it. Let’s be willing to reset in order to grow into wiser, more honest versions of ourselves. Perspective changes everything.

It’s OK to know what you want; it’s also OK to reset when “Plan A” doesn’t work out the way you’d originally hoped for.

With love,

In what area of your life do you feel stuck or restless? What power is there in hitting a metaphorical “reset” in your life?
