As a professional makeup artist and Darling’s Beauty Editor, I get to try out a multitude of beauty products on my clients as well as myself. Although I have the opportunity to experiment with the latest and greatest items as they hit the market, I also rely on the tried and true classics that have become staples in my kit. Each month I will be rounding up my top five picks in skincare and cosmetics and sharing them here with you!
Here’s what I’ll be using most regularly this fall:
I am a huge fan of facial mists. I use them before I apply moisturizer, to set my makeup and throughout the day to refresh. If you are in the mood to splurge on a truly gorgeous product, the Radiant Rose Water from Shiva Rose delivers. It is packed with only all natural ingredients including aloe, rose, comfrey, sea minerals and vitamin C. You can tone, moisturize and replenish your complexion with just a few spritzes of this incredible tonic. Plus, it smells absolutely divine!
Have you been searching for a natural looking non-orangey bronzing powder? Look no further than Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder. Available in four shades, this non-drying jojoba oil and vitamin E infused formula imparts a glowing (not shimmery) warmth to your complexion. The neutral tone and silky texture make it practically mistake proof. As a part of my daily makeup routine, I’ve been applying this product to my fair/medium complexion (shade 01) for a few years now and have not found a bronzer I like better.
I had just about given up on eye creams because I could not find one that truly wowed me. That is until I tried Eye Dew by ARCONA. Not only do I use this in the morning before my makeup application, but I love applying it before bed because I wake up to a hydrated, plumped and revitalized eye area. It contains shea butter, hyaluronic acid, fatty acids and anti-inflammatory blueberry extract and vitamin E, all in a convenient and hygienic pump applicator. When I’m feeling super dehydrated and my fine lines are very apparent, I sparingly pat this on around my eye area after I’ve applied my makeup, and voilà — I look dewy and rested!
In my pursuit of an aluminum-free natural deodorant that actually works, I discovered The Healthy Deodorant by LAVANILA in the Fresh Vanilla Lemon scent. It is a classic solid stick formula filled with pure essential oils, antioxidants and antibacterial agents. I love that it swipes on easily and smells so fresh and clean. I still sweat a little bit but have found that this really controls any odor. When I’m on set for twelve hour days, I carry the miniature version in my bag to easily reapply when I need to freshen up. I swear by this stuff! And bonus, they make coordinating perfumes!
I slather my entire body with lotion every day when I get out of the shower so I need a lightweight formula that absorbs quickly and leaves me moisturized without feeling sticky! The Very Emollient Body Lotion in Maximum Strength from Alba Botanica delivers. Not only does it instantly hydrate and soothe my itchy, dry skin with aloe vera and green tea, it also keeps away flakes, bumps and ingrown hairs with its alpha hydroxy acids! Plus it doesn’t burn when I apply it right after shaving my legs. The little white bumps (keratosis pilaris) I used to get on the back of my arms and legs are now a thing of the past.

Great picks! I’m curious to try the Rosewater and the deodorant, because like you, I steer clear of aluminum in my skincare. Thanks for sharing these favorites 🙂
Love these picks! That’s my favourite deodorant and I’m obsessed with mists too. One misleading part of this article is the lead image – I inferred it’s a photo of the writer but in looking at her Instagram I see that it’s not. In the future with this series I’d love to see an image of the writer or of a look created with the products mentioned. Cheers 🙂
I’m so glad you like my picks! Isn’t that deodorant the greatest? And the scent is just incredible. Thanks so much for checking out my Instagram. Let me know if you try any of my other recommendations and what you think of them!
